Barfoot and Duggan

I am one half of the creative partnership that is ‘Barfoot and Duggan’. We have mini-projects and bigger ones, some which have been in the public eye, like ‘Desperately Seeking Lucy’ which was a picnic in Bristol for people called Lucy; we scoured the electoral registers for people called Lucy or Lucie and invited over 600 of them to our picnic. 13 people showed up and we had a great time! We wanted to see if all Lucy’s shared the same luck as we thing we do. turns out, we’re kind of right!

Our biggest project is in setting up the ‘Light Box’ project, which uses art to promote wellbeing. We are delving into the different pillars of positive psychology, like gratitude, nurture and humour. We like to call this the ‘Happiness Project’ and we have benefitted from consultations from leading positive psychologists as well as support from organisations, councillors and people in Bristol.

The pilot will run for one month in March 2010, in a disused shop in Bristol’s Broadmead. We are offering a rotating calendar of seven happiness workshops, all fascinating, fun and FREE!

The inspiration behind this is that both myself and Lucy Duggan are fantastically optimistic beings. We want to share this wealth in a creative way; having fun. We feel that this is especially important in this age of recession, people are going through a down-turn, and the simple act of ‘having fun’ in its many forms is being neglected.
